What is your domain rating?

One number, from a source we name, in about as long as it takes to load. No account, no waiting on an email, and nothing hidden behind one.

The checker is not switched on yet

Rather than show you a box that cannot answer, here is the plain version: this tool is built and waiting on its connection to the rating service. Everything below is true either way, and you can ask us for the number directly in the meantime.

Where the number comes from

Domain Rating is Ahrefs’ metric, calculated from the size and quality of a site’s backlink profile on a 0–100 logarithmic scale. We query it live and show you what comes back, credited to Ahrefs beside the score, under the licence that permits it. We do not adjust it, average it, or fill it in when the lookup fails — a failed check says it failed.

Why our own catalog says “Not rated”

Fair question to ask of a company running a rating checker. 21 of our 21 outlets carry no published rating, because the figures we hold for them were carried over from a competitor’s marketing page rather than measured. We would rather print nothing than print somebody else’s number as ours. The same licensed source behind this tool is what will fill that column, at which point the ratings appear with a date and a source next to them.

What a domain rating does and does not tell you

  • It measures links pointing at a domain. It is not a measure of traffic, of audience quality, or of whether a publication will cover you.
  • A press placement on a high-rated outlet does not transfer that rating to you. Most press links pass no search-engine credit at all, which is normal publisher policy.
  • It is a third-party estimate, not a fact about your business. Two tools will give you two different numbers for the same site.
